Total Time = 1h 17m 29s
Overall Rank = 290/461
Age Group = 30-40
Age Group Rank = 26/31
Pre-race routine:

Tried a new energy drink in the morning. It was a terrible idea. I was feeling jittery and shaky and it upset my stomach.
Event warmup:

I opted to use the bathroom instead of getting in my warm up run. It was so cold out I stayed in the car with the heater on for most of it.
Swim
  • 07m 33s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was not ready for that cold cold water, but I managed to stay right in the middle of the pack, and didn't let anyone swim over me.
What would you do differently?:

more OW swim practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 28s
Comments:

Had a good t1, nothing spectacular stands out .
What would you do differently?:

Just about perfect, it would have been better if I ran up the hill from the water but I was winded from the swim.
Bike
  • 43m 57s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 15.29 mile/hr
Comments:

Normal course for all the races at this area. I had 1 chew and washed it down about 3 miles later with some kona cola flavored nuun, then hit Carnage hill, threw up, swallowed it down, then pounded the rest of the way up the hill. I ended up not getting out of the saddle and just crawled up quad-buster. I forgot about the little hill at the very end of the ride right before the park, and had already started to wind down.

Also there was a good head wind for miles 1 to 3 before the turn. it was kind of nice to have it as a tail wind going up quad-buster later though.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I need to make sure to remember about that hill and go in with more power. I also need to not change up my nutrition day of.
Transition 2
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Night before broke a speed lace, had a old one on the shoes. they were laced to tight and I ended up having issues getting it on my foot. Sat down for the second time ever in a transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not having a lace blow out would be good for next time.
Run
  • 20m 15s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run with a good pace, I had a negative split. Its always hard to get the brick feeling out in a 2 mile race, its easier on the longer ones.
What would you do differently?:

Well that whole puking issue on the bike stunk, so I ended up gagging a few times on the run. It was gross, and it really slowed me down a few times. I took a water right out of t2 and rinsed my mouth out, then another water just after mile 1 to do the same.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and Talked with friends and family and cooled down while waiting on another friend to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The change in the morning beverage and having the chew with kona cola was bad. throwing up was bad, tasting the puke and gagging on the run was bad.

Event comments:

The Rookie is always a good race to start the season with since its so short.
Jack and Adams and High Five events always put on amazingly well organized races.
