Hello everyone

Doing this event for the first time this year

Any input for this venue would be helpful - I heard it is 'rolling' all the way

I have done many other Subaru MSC Canada events but never this venue

A race for me this year is Muskoka Half IM

Happy Training

Hey Jean, I've never raced this, but I live in KW and know that end of the city well... for the bike, very very hilly and its a lot of down one-right up the next kind of rolling.  The bike is very intense for sure. Also the road quality near the transition zone especially is not fantastic, so just be expecting that.  All that being said, the scenery is lovely, and you're likely to see a few horse-and-buggies out that way.  They usually keep to the shoulders, so horse poo should not be a factor.  Lots of Mennonites in that part of the county.  Best wishes for a great race!

Yeah, I've done this one three times I think and I am always surprised at the hills on the bike course - it's still early in the season to not have that much outdoor riding done so the sudden hills can sting.  Always seems like a pretty competitive crowd but also friendly so don't worry about it - being the first event on the schedule makes everyone enthusiastic.

The weather is quite variable - from scorching hot to cool and windy so plan accordingly with the weather forecast.  And there are aid stations on the run but not on the bike.

And Pilot_e is right - there are some beautiful views and often there are Mennonite families or children watching the racers pass by their farms which is cool.

The run is has a gradual climb on the way out but isn't complicated.

Thank you both - drove that part of KW several times but never specifically on those roads

As for competition, this one will be like Milton I imagine - lots of it

Will see and will keep you all posted

Hope to see that Red Bike flying by me ...

See you there.....just signed up.... I am a complete "newbie" to the duathlon events.  As I completed my registration I went through a bit of a panic attack.  Good luck on May 20th.

Thank you Bopper for this detailed information

Now the debate - 'tri bike or road bike?'

Don't like tri-bars on road bike and climbing with a tri bike is - well - less than optimal

I'll get both ready and see how I feel on the weekend

Thank you again and Happy Training

Great description from Bopper.    A very challenging but fun route.   I would definitely take a road bike over tri-bike.   The old route had a lot more flat section where the benefits of the tri bike might outweigh the road bike.

Maybe someday I'll register for the event.

Thank you all

Both bikes are ready - Did a lovely 70 k hilly ride yesterday with a friend of mine who suffered a spinal cord injury a few years ago - On his hand cycle he hit 82.8 kph down Bell School Line in Milton - I hit 74.2 kph and had to slow down...

So I guess I am ready for some speed on Monday - Rain or Shine - I'll adjust as required

Bike choice - we will 'tri'...

Happy Training

So, how was it?

It was a warm day ... but awesome if they still had the barbecue truck there - at least for afterwards!

Hello everyone - thank you for the updates / words of wisdom - no food truck

It was hot - very hot
1- used tri bike
2- one of the fastest bike split in age group 45-49; 52:04 on bike; crappy run - 19:04 and 20:51
3- averaged 36kph on bike and 67 kph top speed
3- finished 94 out of 341; 18 out of 41 in age group
4- food - as always - was great
5- ambience - as always very entertaining
6- as always, never enough water on the course, especially on hot days; does not matter on the distance; most of us struggled at the 2k mark (2nd run) as no shade on the return - water at 3k surely gave me wings...

Fortunately - two teammates had good finishes 2nd in ladies 35-39 and 5th in men 45-49; he beat me by a few seconds on the bike but the run time - let's not talk about it ...

Just like Milton - all the top racers showed up so the set paces were fast

Will do more brick workouts after I work 60+ hours per week - I almost forgot ... how do these fellows (AKA fitness machines) in the 45-49 AG do it - yeah right a) established, b) have money, and c) have time

Can't comment on any of the 3...

See you in Milton on June 2nd and good luck to the lucky ones who will do Woodstock this weekend; got to get in the wetsuit...

Happy Training

Jean
