Subject line kind of says it all.  Last week of taper for a HIM.  I know more or less where I want my total volume to be this week, but is it better to keep long workouts broken up with more rest, or short, high intensity workouts every day?

I say short and high intensity.  Really it depends on what you mean by "long" or "short", but generally you recover faster from the shorter, high intensity stuff.  At least that's my understanding of it.

What is high intensity? You don't need to do anything above race pace, so if "high intensity" is race pace then yes. You don't want to do long workouts because you are trying to rest and with long workouts you are just fatiguing your body before the race.

Taper week is all about rest, recover, and properly fueling your body.

Short and easy. All of your training is done (or should be). This is a recovery/rest week. Stay loose, there are no benefits to "training" this close to a race.

I say short and easy every day, with race-pace intervals included in (but not the majority of) each workout. Because that's what my coach always has me do and it seems to work for me.
