Is there a learning curve?  I've been running in VFFs and Merrell Gloves for past couple of years and recently bought a pair of Bondi Bs.  I have a 50 miler coming up in a few months and got talked into them.  I've used them on a couple of 15 milers and am not in love with them.  15 miles of trail and I felt like I was going to turn my ankle more than a couple of times.  I'll stick with them for a while (at $160.00 it'll kill me to trash them).  Any pointers from the Bondi believers?

I don't have anything helpful for you except to tell you that you're not alone. They didn't work for me and now they just mock me from the corner of my closet. I really don't like them, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them.

I'm in same boat.  wore VFFs, Merrills etc.  The Hokas feel too 'disconnected'-especially on rocky, technical trails.  Sold Mine.

The Bondi B's are meant for road running.  The Stinson Evo or Stinson Evo Tarmac would be a better trail/road hybrid shoe.  The Mafate is the more pure trail shoe.

I really like my Bondi B's.

But I have only run road with them.

However, many of the ultra trail folks I know train and race in Hoka's I don't what the mix of the models are, perhaps more are the Stinson.

Now, the Bondi's are not perfect for me, I use them for training only.

For me, they are harder to run distance with them, more work than regular running shoes (Saucony Mirage example). But I like the extra work for training purposes.  I don't think I would try to race with them.

Yet, the cushioning is great for my feet, definitely a smooth ride and less trauma, nice especially for my PF annoyance in the left foot.

ps. my Newtons laugh at me from the closet

I've only tried on the Maffete, and frankly couldn't take them off fast enough.

Just standing in them, I felt unstable. Could feel my feet moving around trying to find something to hold onto to keep me stable.

Then I ran in them... Huge amount of rocker, and the stiffness of the overall shoe (due to the THICK padding) made it feel like the ground was falling away under me on every toe-off.

I wasn't sorry they didn't work for me, at the oh-my-gawd prices they're asking for these foot-pillows.

I didn't love mine either. I wear asics 33lytes and I think I just prefer to feel the road more. Thankfully I had no problem returning them.

I have a pair of the Stinsons. Took me a little while to get used to them.  Maybe a few hundred miles or so.  Now I love them.

But I agree they werent the best on extremely rocky trails.  I felt like I was rolling my ankle all the time.  I use them now mainly for my long runs and recovery runs and they feel great.

Hey Switch and La Tortuga, I might be interested in buying them if you decide that y'all just aren't meant for each other. What size shoe do you wear? I have been intersted in trying out Bondis and it would hurt less if I didn't like them either if I paid less than retail for them

W 9.5.  I would be happy to see them go to a good home.  They're the red, orange and yellows that occasionally flash across the top banner.  PM me if you're interested.

This. I had to google the shoe and almost laughed. Why would anyone run in such a thing? They look scary.

They are constantly at the top banner of my screen (again, mocking me).  How have you not seen these yet?  Do you have different ads on BT if you log on from Denmark?

Everything else I own is kind of minimalist, and my go to running shoe is the Kinvara, but I love, love, love my Hokas for long runs. They are fantastic and my legs feel significantly better after a long run in these shoes. I also know a local guy who has run a mid 17 5K in them so don't tell me they aren't fast!

Don't knock them until you have tried em.

If someone who doesn't love their lightly used Hokas in mens size 8.5 and wants to get rid of them, send me a PM

ETA there was no learning curve for me. They were different when I put them on but I liked running in them the very first time I wore them.

It took me about .5 miles to get over the "what have I done?" feeling of my Bondi B2s. I am slowly recovering from capsulitis in my left foot and they allow me to run pain free. I definitely have less fatigue in my legs on long runs too. That said, they are not trail shoes, so to the OP I can understand why you wouldn't feel comfortable with the Bondi Bs, as another poster said; there are styles more suited to trail running.

Because they are really great shoes for many people.  Go to any ultra and you'll see them on 50% of the people.  There's a reason for that.

Why would anyone run barefoot?  It's all about comfort for the individual.  I love my Hoka Stinsons.  Before when I ran in other shoes....Brooks Beasts, Saucony Hurricanes, by about mile 7 or 8 I was feeling every stride in my hip joints.  Since switching I have gone much further with little or no discomfort while running.

They're like running on Angel kisses, and Unicorn farts.

Mine just came in the mail yesterday!  I was able to get in a short 2 mile run.  INITIAL thoughts are they are lightweight and very comfortable.  I can "feel" the  difference in them over my saucony Rides for instance.  They seem to have a "springy" feel as you land and take off which I like.  Now 2 miles isn't enough to give them a thumbs up or down so I will be testing the crap out of them and give my full report/views.
