Start 2 Finish, Inc.
84F / 29C
Total Time = 2h 53m
Overall Rank = 330/872
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 57/
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5AM, ate bagel and drank water. I went down to transition in my shorts and tshirt, got everything setup and then came back to room to change.
Event warmup:

Swam in the lake to get a feel for the water and then caught up with friends that were racing
  • 27m 56s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards

Felt great in the water, best swim I have ever had at MIM
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s

T1 took me longer than I wanted. By the time I got wetsuit off and HR monitor on...I need to practice that
  • 1h 17m 54s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.14 mile/hr

Strong headwinds for the 1st 14 miles or so. Got a huge calf cramp around mile 10 that almost brought me to a dead stop. Tailwind on the way back was very welcomed!
What would you do differently?:

keep rididing
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
  • 1h 03m 17s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 05m 53s  min/mile

Need to prepare for the heat better, was really wanting to go under 60 minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

cold towel, water and a bannana

What limited your ability to perform faster:

winds and heat did not help!

Event comments:

Love this race, and I will always comeback as long as I can.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Most people believe that running barefoot is dangerous. Certainly, depending upon the surface, they would be correct. However, there is some suggestion that running barefoot may reduce injuries.
