Columbia Triathlon Association
70F / 21C
Overcast
Total Time = 2h 30m 46s
Overall Rank = 259/1522
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 19/119
Pre-race routine:

Had alarm set for 4:40am, but didn't need it as I was wide awake at 3:00am. Got out of bed at 4:30. Had two pieces of peanut butter toast and started sipping a bottle of EFS. Got to transition area around 5:40. Next year I would like to be there a little earlier. Got to see my family and friends before the race, which is always great.
Event warmup:

No warmup. Just light stretching
Swim
  • 25m 18s
  • 1497 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was ok. I felt like the swim was a little longer. My watch had it as .99 instead of .93. I also heard a few others saying the same thing.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder for the swim. I definitely have room for improvement.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Transition was ok. I have to get faster at taking off the wetsuit. Found myself wasting time checking to make sure I had everything.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my transition a little more
Bike
  • 1h 14m 44s
  • 25 miles
  • 20.07 mile/hr
Comments:

First time racing on my tri bike. Faster than last year, but I still think I can go much faster. I was a little nervous on certain parts of the course due to the wet pavement. I found myself out of the aero position and on the brakes.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder. I didn't put in enough bike training. I need to be riding the race distance or longer on more rides
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Fairly pleased with this transition. My right quad and stomach muscles cramped a little while bending down to get my shoes so I had to stand quickly. I also found myself double checking before leaving.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transition. Make sure I am confident I have everything.
Run
  • 47m 13s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I improved from last year, but I still think I can do much better. I felt pretty good until mile 3. After tacking the neighborhood my quads started to cramp a little. I was able to push through it and was happy overall with the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder and actually run hills prior to the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing. Spent time with family and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. I have to log longer training workout if I want to perform the way I think I am capable.

Event comments:

I love this race and can't wait to do it next year. I missed doing it with J, but excited to know he'll be back for next year.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
