Comments:

Pool swim (long course; heated). First time I have swam competitively in a pool in almost 20 years. Probably went out a little too hard. Won my wave, but a couple people were catching up to me at the end.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

Long-ish run; through buildings and up/down a couple stairs. No issues in transition area.
Bike

Comments:

Not a good bike. My lack of time training on the actual road this year showed. No significant climbs on this course, but a couple minors hills sapped me more than they should have. I need to be at least 19+ mph on this course.
Transition 2

no issues

Comments:

This was just an ok run. It was pretty hilly, but I struggled to get into a groove. Need to go harder earlier.

About 200 yards from the finish, I started hearing this really loud pounding and panting coming from behind me (and gaining). I didn't look, but it sure sounded like a fellow Clydesdale. I thought "Heck, no I am not letting somebody pass me this late." I kicked in to a higher gear for the finish and held him off. As it turns out, it was another Clyde, and I pulled it out by 4 seconds. Which was good enough for the division win.

Event comments:

This was a well organized event. But a bit of a weird one. Because it was a pool swim, they did waves of 12. Which means that waves were going off basically from 7:15 to 12:30. So as I was packing up and leaving, new people were parking and getting ready to go set up their transition area.

Surprisingly stiff competition for such a small local race. The winners put up some pretty impressive times.

The cool part is I won the Clydesdale division (a first for me). The not as cool part was that they gave free entries to all the AG winners, but excluded Clydesdale/Athena. What the heck is up with that?

I don't really strength train (because I never have and don't really know much about it) and feel like my lack of upper body strength is the reason why I'm not getting faster.
