Set Up Events
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 38m 36s
Overall Rank = 250/591
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/33
Pre-race routine:

Up and out the door by 5-something. Drove down to Lake Anna that morning since the race was a 9:00 am start. Ate breakfast in the car and stopped for coffee on the way.
Event warmup:

Set up TA and hung out at the tent as the swim waves went off. Meg and I were in the same wave and hung out at the swim start together. No real warm up otherwise.
Swim
  • 13m 27s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good on the swim. Water wasn't too cold and let some leak in before the gun went off. Had no issues sighting, but we had some chop and boat fumes as we made the first right turn. Got a tad nauseous, but things got better when we made the second turn to head back to shore.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Started to jog out of the water, but stomach was still a little off from the waves/fumes on the swim so I walked it in. Uneventful T1. Bike in/out were at the same spot so I had a longer way to get to the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

As always, hustle.
Bike
  • 53m 55s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 17.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Having ridden 100 miles the day before (which included Mt. Weather), I was happy with my time on the bike. I could tell my legs had nothing. On each hill, they were fatigued and it took a lot out of them to keep my watts up while not killing myself. I also didn't want to bury myself for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride 100 miles the day before? Kidding...kind of. This race was a shake out race and I wasn't tapered for it as it wasn't in the plan for the year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Seamless T2. Again, a longer run to my rack since they didn't do the transition area properly.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Despite having to walk up the big hill out of the transition area, I'm happy with this run all things considered. Meg caught me at around mile 1 and I would have loved to hang with her, but didn't have it in my legs.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some pizza with our free coupon and hung at the tent with the team.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not tapering and riding 100 miles the day prior.

Event comments:

Set Up does a good job with their events.
Overall, I'm happy with my performance given that I haven't done any speed work and I wasn't tapered for the race. I clearly have the most improvement to be made on the bike and run (3/33 on the swim, 15/33 on the bike and 19/33 on the run in my AG).

Would be nice if they could get the TA accurate with the bike in/out not in the same spot. Other than that, no real complaints. Was on time, nice shirts/socks, good post race refreshments and nice venue.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
