Portsmouth, Ohio

HFP Racing
75F / 24C
Overcast
Total Time = 30m 47s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Fem. Sr Team
Age Group Rank = 10/14
Pre-race routine:

Nada. Stood on the shore with Kevin Wright and LC and watched as the racers started in a 3 at a time time trial start. Had a delay b/c the lead safety guy wasn't there.
Event warmup:

No warm up.
Swim
  • 05m 14s
  • 273 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt I swam harder than my time shows. Not sure if I was slow to get out to the first buoy (had to walk or dolphin b/c of how shallow the water is) or if the course was long, but I felt like I pushed it the entire time.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Uneventful T1
Bike
  • 15m 21s
  • 3.73 miles
  • 14.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Went hard for the entire ride. The climb to the cabins was tough to hammer, but tried to keep the pedal down the entire way.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Didn't wear socks so I slipped on my Zoot running shoes and was off.
Run
  • 08m 20s
  • 1 miles
  • 07m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

LC passed me on the climb of the bike and I kept her in my sights. I think we linked up in T2 (can't really recall) and ran together. I could hear her behind me which was a nice push. Couldn't have run any harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out in the tent for a little with the team before cleaning our stuff up and riding up the hill to the cabin.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of speedwork maybe?

Event comments:

Just the appetizer race for the weekend. This was the only race I went all out in. Every other race was easy effort on purpose.

Cotswold super sprint - UK. Lots of bodies colliding, I swam half over someone, got kicked by some bloody breaststroker, and as a mob we poured towards the first buoy.

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
