Subject: Ironman Louisville Training Plan
HI I am signed up for my first IM, Louisville on August 25th

Has anyone trained for either their first IM or IMLouisville with the 20 week Intermmediate IM Plan? Was it enough? How did you like it?

My weakness is my run, so my concern is if I run by time and not by mileage I will not cover enough miles at training for the actual race.

Hills and heat. You have heard it. I did a 30 week plan and had a strong run background . I suggest you look up the 4 keys to Ironman Louisville on YouTube. Watch it and memorize it and utilize it on race day. You will be thankful you did.

I agree with what Cedar Creek said. Those 4-5 videos I watched and they are helpful. I think it's a total of about 50 minutes. The IMLOU will be my first as well. There is also videos (5ish) of the bike course. I have watched them as well. I am sure I will watch both sets of video's at least two more times.

Note a bunch of us are on FB. The group is called Ironman Louisville 2013. A lot of commenting going on over there and plenty of ideas/support.

Using a high-volume schedule for many months is not the best tactic. Build speed and skill several months out, and then transition to a high-volume IM plan.

On long runs, I've been taking 4-oz of Gatorade Endurance every 10-minutes, for a total of about 24-oz an hour. Should I boost my liquid consumption on the runs?

This plan is an advanced plan in terms of volume and intensity and appropriate for someone who is looking to go under 5:00 and as fast as 4:30. There isn’t a lot of fluff in the plan.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.
