Overall Rank = 61/109
Age Group = female - open
Age Group Rank = 15/37
Pre-race routine:

I probably didn't eat close enough to the event. Had a regular lunch and left from work to the event.
Event warmup:

10 minute jog and a quick swim.
Swim
  • 08m 59s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had the worst swim yet. I cruised out to the buoy and felt great, but got caught up in a group after the buoy and used up all of my energy. There were some guys in front of me losing energy, so they were swimming erratically, but I couldn't get by them. After several attempts and getting pounded, I ended up exhausted and needed to change strokes for a little breather for awhile.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe find a way to get out of the pile-up at the buoy more quickly. Swing wider out?
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T times weren't clocked. I transitioned fine, but I opted to walk rather than run the bike after getting so demoralized in the swim.
Bike
  • 36m 6s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.94 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt fine on the bike leg, but I'm always comfortable on the bike. I think I did well on the climbs, but probably didn't push for as much speed as I could have on the flats.
What would you do differently?:

Attack the flats with a little more vigor.

I'd love to get some aero bars. By observation, they did seem to make a difference in flat and downhill speed for those who had them.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No issues
Run
  • 28m 40s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Yuck, it was an awful run for me. I had a side stitch the whole time and had trouble breathing.
What would you do differently?:

I would have used my inhaler before the event and maybe during the transition.
Post race
Warm down:

Ha. Warm down? Grinders and beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting caught in a jam on the swim and not using my inhaler.
Maybe better nutrition.

Event comments:

This is definitely a fun race series.
I wasn't feeling my best during the race, but I still had a great time. Fun with friends, grinders, beer, catching a token from the prize table... Life is good.

Nice race Kim even if you didnt feel it was your best.

I got jammed up on the swim too with some guys who I think were trying to go faster than they really could and when they got tired on the return trip they were in the way.

Would be great to know who you are next time.

The transition times weren't clocked?  You mean, you could leisurely do your transition or did it count for your overall time?  Way to go on the race even though you didn't feel like it was your best.

No, the clock didn't stop on the transitions, but they aren't seperately listed in the race data and I didn't keep track myself.

Thank you both for the comments.

Great race...I was just a spectator this time but have done the race a few times.

I always swim wide around that buoy and it has worked great to avoid the congestion. Otherwise you get pounded just like you described.

Good job

Mark
