Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 0315, left at 0415, arrived at Tradewinds at 0515.
Picked up race packet, got chip, got numbers, pumped bike tires, racked bike

Event warmup:

Walked 1/4mi to swim start with Mary.
Did yoga stretches
Ate protein bar and drank G2.
  • 10m 4s
  • 440 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters

Lots of bumping each other for half the swim :-(
What would you do differently?:

Start further off to the left side
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s

My usual slow T1.
67sec slower than 1st place racer
What would you do differently?:

Just get faster
  • 29m 59s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.35 mile/hr

I vowed to ride this course more aggressively and ended with fastest time in my AG by 42sec
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 02m 10s

My T2 was 78sec slower than fastest AG time and slowest of my whole AG :-(
What would you do differently?:

I gotta learn to do T2 WAY faster if I want to win more often.
  • 31m 59s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile

I gotta learn how to run faster. I was 9:24 slower than fastest AG runner.
This is my PB run on this course though, so maybe I am improving ever so slowly.

What would you do differently?:

Run faster
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with Mary

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Old age
Need to loss 10-15lbs. I am 5-10, 163lbs now

Event comments:

This was my PB time at this race course so maybe I am improving (slowly).

Going for broke in a race, as a pro or an amateur, can mean failure or exhilaration -- or both.

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Some would say there are easier ways to get in shape, and they are probably right. My first worry was being able to squeeze into a wetsuit by race day.

So someone convinced you to get off the couch and truck-it to the finish line. Now what? Here's a look at the process from admiring others to inspiring others.
