I missed the chance to volunteer for this race as I was not sure I would be able to make it and it turns out I will. So my question how much of a chance do I have getting in on site without being a volunteer?

This past year there were plenty of spots available to the general public. However if you wanted to volunteer, contact the coordinator by email. I doubt they will turn away a volunteer.

This is what has happened in the past:

The day before the race current year athletes can sign up.

The day after the race volunteers line up about 8 am to sign up

The day after the race anyone local can line up AFTER the volunteers.

What ever is left goes online.

After that there are foundation slots which cost twice as much.

IMFL mostly sells out in less than an hour online, but some years it stays open for hours or days.  I remember a few years ago it lasted 3 days online.  I don't know how long the foundation slots last, but they might not be a bad deal.  The cost is about $750 extra, and that isn't that much more than driving down and staying in a hotel.  I believe you can write off half of the cost because it goes to charity and some companies match charitable donations.

Personally, I would go volunteer.  It's great to give back, you will see how the race works, and you might be able to ride or run part of the course.

I hope that helps.

I think it sold out as fast as it ever has last year, but I don't think it was under a minute.  It takes 5-10 mins just fill all the crap out.

If you are going to try and get in online, make sure you have all your info on active and use multiple computers to try and be one of the first to get through when it opens.

Ironman did report that the race sold out online in under a minute. I think what they were referring to was the fact that all slots had been claimed by that point because yes it does take many minutes to fill out that form. If it were me, for peace of mine, i would go and volunteer or at a minimum, stand in the general public line. I dont think I have the patience to try online only. However that being said, two local guys got in online in that time frame under a minute. LOL

It seems weird that both of your friends were able to log on, fill out all the crap, and got in under a minute.

(I'm just poking fun at IM.  IMFL closed out very quickly last year)

Two years ago, we decided to head down to IMFL to see if they needed any last minute volunteers. We found out where/when the volunteer meeting would be and just asked one of the coordinators if they needed help. She was very glad to see us since she was primarily relying on HS kids to assist in T1 bag handouts. It was a busy, cold morning but loads of fun. I'd bet that, if you are proactive, you could find a slot without too much trouble.

My problem is I can only swim about 30-40 meters without having to rest. What is the best way to improve this? I need to get from 40 to 750 meters in 6 months.
