Pre-race routine:

Set up Transition
Event warmup:

Light stretching
Swim
  • 05m 22s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Terrible swim. I put my self in a very congested spot and saw nothing but feel in front of me and had people grabbing my feet from behind. Never got into a groove.
What would you do differently?:

position myself better or trust myself that I am a good swimmer and get up on the front!
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Pretty smooth transition. Left one of the velcro straps closed on the one shoe so that cost me about a second.
What would you do differently?:

Double check my shoes to see that all the shoes are set up properly.
Bike
  • 27m 11s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.86 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where I shine! Coming out of transition it was uphill for a little bit until we got out onto the highway and got onto the flats. I was passing people going up the hill like they were dragging anchors! I must have passed about 20-25 people in a 1/4 mile till we got out to the highway. I raced the bike like an animal and passed almost everyone I came across.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

I thought this was my best T2 ever. I was pleased
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 13m 26s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I set a pretty good pace for myself. 2 or 3 of the guys that I passed on the bike passed me in the first mile. I wasnt really concerned with them as they were not in my AG. That terrible swim came back to haunt me as one guy ran me down with 300 yards to go. He beat me by 5 seconds to take the AG win.
What would you do differently?:

Set myself up better in the swim so I dont have to worry about people running me down!
Post race
Warm down:

Drink water, stretch a little bit and EAT FOOD!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sucky swim positioning.

Event comments:

This is a fun little race. I wish it was a full sprint distance though.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
