Age Group Rank = 6/24
Pre-race routine:

got up way too early for the 2 hr drive to the eastern shore. drive went smoothly.
Event warmup:

Not much - I am not big on getting into the water pre-swim. It is not good for my psyche. I did watch some early waves to get a feel for the course.
Swim
  • 35m 28s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

I jumped in with a minute to go before my wave start. It was a deep water and non wetsuit swim - not my favorite at all.

I got started and had some more bumping than usual. People usually swim away from me really fast. Turns and sighting were ok except on the turn/buoy into the sun. I had trouble finding it on the first lap - much better coming home. There were a few really shallow spots in the harbor. I did some dolphin swimming through there. Probably faster than my normal stroke.

As usual got stronger and more comfortable as I went but I was happy to get out of the water. There were 2 underwater steps and then a big climb out onto the dock. My right calf cramped coming out.

Transition 1

Jogged a little slowly mostly b/c I realized my tri suit was a little stretchy than in the past and I had not worn a sports bar. Mentally note - bra for Rev3.
Bike
  • 1h 20m 53s
  • 24.5 kms
  • 18.30 km/hr
Comments:

Started off well. I had high hopes. First 7 miles great then had to ride through some construction and loose gravel. I was cautious then once that was over the next 5 miles were ok. But turning back towards home, the course went straight into a headwind so 10 miles of that sucked. Killed my time and my legs.

Oh well. Plus bike set up sucks. I was not comfortable (mentally) in aero which makes for an awful ride on a tri bike and my saddle is doing some major damage. I have 3 weeks to get that all figured out.
What would you do differently?:

Take up tennis.
Transition 2

Woo Hoo - I ruled the transition area. It's a shame that is such a short part of the course. ;-) I would have been faster but there was some dude moving very slowly in front of me and I didn't feel it was necessary to push past until there was room. I suppose that cost me 5th place in my AG. LOL
Run
  • 57m 39s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 48s  min/km
Comments:

Hot as hell. My legs were tight from the bike. @nd lap was pretty but I never erally loosed up that much. They had ice cold water on the second lap and that felt so good. Gave me a boost. Another overall disappointment. Should have been stronger off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood in the spray tent and cooled off. I actually ate some food then packed up for the long drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Event comments:

Nice race - easy course. Well run and good place to bring the family since there is a little beach and a some town all close. I would come back again.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
