Age Group Rank = 2/19
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race site around 5:15. Checked in and had bike checked-handlebars were loose so got them tightened. Didn't really know anyone at the race because everyone I know did the NYC tri -I didn't get in in time. Set up my transition area and streached a bit.
Event warmup:

Swam around for a few minutes before the start of the race.
Swim
  • 10m 48s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't thnk I knew anybody at the race, but just before the start I ran into a former AG swimming teammate. Swim felt good, but definitely longer than a 1/2 mile. Fine with me :) Water was really calm and the course was well marked. Drafted off of lead male in 29 & U wave pretty much the entire time. First female out of the water...not really a suprise.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Need to practice hopping on the bike -I have not really gotten a hold of this yet. Also, I have my sunglasses with my helmet but I decided not to wear them because I was still dripping wet and couldn't see through them properly.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out what to do with the sunglasses
Bike
  • 37m
  • 12.5 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Noticed I primarily got passed on downhills and especially in turns -definitely need to work on this. Hills were good, flats were good. Legs felt pretty fresh and could have definitely continued at the same pace for an additional 12.5 miles. Only the the girl who eventually ended up winning the race passed me on the bike, I was able to keep her in my sites and I think with more practice I can eventually get to her speed.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, continue to work on cornering and not being so timid on downhills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

I need to learn how to jump off the bike. I come to a complete stop and then get off the bike. At least I didn't have problems unlocking my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

see above
Run
  • 25m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

my left calf was really tight at the beginning of the run and for some reason, whenever I'm racing I always seem to have breathing problems. They weren't too bad today, but still there (maybe I still have asthma?). Run was OK, I didn't walk or anything, but I need to get A LOT better, it's so frustrating when people pass you! At least I sprinted into the finish. The time was a little faster than I thought I was going, but I have to dip under the 8 min average. But to do that I have to train at running under 8 min miles and I'm just not there yet.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run a LOT more and get a LOT faster.
Post race
Warm down:

massage :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

running.

Event comments:

This was definitely the best run race I have participated in. The race was on time, organized VERY well marked and well Staffed. And the prizes were great too -I won a 50% discount to a Trifitness orgnaized race next year. The winners got wreaths made of what else...moss :)
They also had a great raffle prize, I didn't win anything, but the prizes were really good.

Awesome job! I volunteered with the kids race (at the same site), and the kids had a ball. They needed volunteers so bad that they offered 50% off vouchers, so I will definitely be adding the olympic to my calendar (it runs from Bridgeport; the bike course is a 5-looper, which is the only reason I hesitated).
