I'm going to be at Topsail the week of July 4th, probably Saturday to Saturday. Anyone interested in a ride? It doesn't look like Cape Fear Cyclists have that much going on that week. Thanks.

down east cycles in jacksonville lists a number of rides that week.  ill be in Emerald isle that week and usually ride between the beach, the croatan forest and beaufort but would'nt mind venturing out a bit.  There was someone from Jack Kane cycles(jacksonville) that posted here from time to time. They could gives us the skinny.

I'll be down there (Topsail/Surf City area) from 7/3 until 7/7, and will bring my bike. Will be at MP5, on the sound side. Let's try to meet up.

Good deal. I'll circle back. Maybe we could meet up for one of the Down Easy Cyclists rides. Also, willing to ride as a smaller group. I really hate riding on the island south of Surf City, so maybe we could scope out some routes on the mainland.

Also, what is MP#?

There is a 5k on the southern end on Saturday the 6 th if anyone is interested. I think it's www.itsgo-time.com website. Only $25 until 6/21 I think. Might be good for a little brick work out . I live in Hampstead and ride on rt 17 a lot without too much trouble. Holiday weekend might be a little different though. The roads getting from 17 to the island are not bike friendly and neither is the traffic volume on weekends unless u go early.
I have family in town but hope to get a little riding in.

Hey all.

Not sure if you are trying to plan on a weekend or what. I would be able to ride on Tues July 2nd (Tuesday is my only day off work nowdays.)
I normally ride a route on the mainland that would not be to far from Topsail area if you want to meet.

Could maybe meet and park at somewhere like The Methodist Church on corner of Sidbury and 17 (Market). then do something like:

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/226029945

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you all come up with.

Tuesday sounds good to me, assuming you're willing to slow it down a hair for a moderate cyclist like me (and thank god we're not running together). I think the route is private on mapmyrides. What kind of start time did you have in mind? Earlier the better for me - I need to get in some sandbar time.

Also, I'm thinking about riding at least one of the Down East Cyclist rides - maybe Wednesday morning. I've been in touch with the guy (or gal?) from Kane that used to post on BT about trying to meet up on one of those rides.

Goose

Early is good, if for no other reason it is getting hot out there now. I can do it at anytime so between 6am and 7am would work for me if that is what fits in with others.
As for pace. My bike still does not have a back wheel on it after taking it apart from Raleigh 70.3. IE I have not ridden since then and with my work schedule I am not sure if I will really get to ride. This will be a chance for me to get out and ride and meet new people. Hopefully fgump ( just saw that fgump only get down here on the 3rd) will be able to join or anyone else who is reading this.

I went and made that map public. It is just an idea of where we could ride. The start point would be pretty easy for anyone in Topsail/Surf City and for anyone (me) down in Wilmington. Also convenient b/c of chirches right there for parking.

Goose-MP is milepost. There are signs every mile on the island, and we're staying right at the mile 5 marker.

Sadly, I won't be able to join y'all on Tuesday; will be working. Enjoy!

Man, I've been going down there for more than fifteen years and never paid attention to the mile posts.

fgump, you available to ride Saturday 7/6?

I can certainly make myself available! If we time it right, I can get the ride in, and be back in time to make breakfast for the friends and family From MP5 North to the end of the island, back down to the Topsail Beach Pier, and back up to MP5 is 40 miles.

I could roll out around 6am. Where will you be on Topsail? Can I meet you on the main drive somewhere?

I'm on the southernmost canal. Good canal to swim, if you're interested in swimming down there. Let's tentatively plan on 6am that morning. So are you going to be south of the Surf City bridge?

I'll be at Cutlass Drive. It's 5 miles from the bottom of the island. I'd be happy to roll out at 5:40 and meet you down at your end at 6.

I'd like to get a ride in at Topsail next weekend (the 29th or 30th). Anyone interested in doing the 40 miles with me? I can also go on the 4th but I am chained to my desk from 8-5 during the rest of the week.

I might be able to ride the 29th, if we get down there on Friday. I'm not sure yet, but will repost if it looks like we'll be there.

The ride that the Bicycle Gallery in J-Ville typically hosts on Thursdays is closed, but people may still show up to ride.

Posting on the Down East Cyclist's Meet-Up page may bring out some more riders too.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be in Raleigh for the Firecracker 100.

I just found a 5,10k on sat 8:30 I think it's on the beach. It's at mile marker 12. Or beach access #2 in onslow county. Only $10! My family is in town and i convinced a few of them to do the 10k. I should ride the 30 miles from my house first but I don't think that will happen. Just FYI. Earthandsurffest.com. They have a surf comp and bands, beach yoga etc.... I did the race last year. Definitely a low key, no chip timing, not timed well with the tide ( was incoming) and HOT. But was fun to spend the day hanging out.

31 wonderful miles on the bike this morning. Sunrise on 210, turnaround at Hwy 172 north of Sneads Ferry. Very courteous traffic, good bike lanes.
