I have a Bontrager pump and you can buy the adapter with the cover...do I need this?

doubt it

I use my pump without a crack pipe with my cover. You might have to push the cover around a bit, but it shouldn't do any damage.

You know responding to one of my posts opens you up to a relentless barrage of follow up questions...right? Just kidding (kind of). Thanks for all your help re: wheels. I'm going more "aero" for under $300 total.

Depends on how big the head of the pump is. My specialized pump head wouldn't fit in the valve opening in the cover when I flipped the lever, so I have to use a crackpipe.
You might not know until you try to use it and it either fits or it doesn't.

Also, the crack pipe may be needed for race day for your CO2 inflator or mini pump.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
