Nothing to technical here at all, just want help deciding "this one or that one". I've been in the market for a tri bike around the $3k point and have essentially narrowed my search down to the P2. A nearby LBS has both the 2012 and 2013 P2 models in stock and in my size. I can get the 2012 model for almost $450 less than the 2013. They won't discount the 2013.

Which would you go with? Just want to hear what others would say since I'm on the fence and would like to see if I can get a nudge here to decide. I like the 2013 paint job, but the 2012 still looks sharp to me. The 2013 model also scaled back the rear cogs to Shimano 105 (and probably some other components). Which is the better buy here?

Other than the paint scheme, the frame will be exactly the same.  I would save the $$ and get the 2012.

There's no difference between them except for the paint. I assume that you've already had a fit done and that the P2C is a good choice for you... if not, you might be wasting your money.

Thanks. Yes, I've had a fit done and the LBS placed me on either a Cervelo or Felt 58cm frame. My inseam is short compared to my torso, but on the 56cm frames, I am reaching way out over the front (too far in their estimates)...

I have a P2 and it is a great bike. I would save the money and buy the older model.

You will very likely get other accessories so if you can save a few bucks and get better components, go 2012.

Does the 2102 have Ultegra components. That's what I have, didn't think there was a105 option for the 2012s, so that is another positive for the 2012.

2012.

My 2012 P2 was just totaled last Wednesday when I was hit by a car. I loved that bike. I only had it for 18 months. You'll love it. Take the $450 and get some better wheels, or carbon water cages, or something like that.

I like the 2012 option as well.

I did see one for sale on this site as well.

Actually, it doesn't appear to be a 2012, but still a good deal if it's still available.

Then the 2012 P2C is definitely the better option.... use the savings for something fun.

I was in between these two bikes in January and I ended up with the 2012 model. My LBS gave me a sick discount over the 2013 model plus also discount on shoes and pedals and a free fitting. In addition, in my case the 2012 model came with better components such as shimano ultegra vs. 105, handlebar, aerobars and wheels (I think the wheels were upgraded by my LBS, not because they are better by default). I think everything else is exactly the same.

I liked the paint more on the 2013 model, but the savings were significant. I am very happy with my decision. This sport is not cheap and I was able to put the savings into other equipment that I also needed.

I seem to be the only one who paid the extra for the nicer paint job! However, I apparently got one of the "in between" models - new paint job but still had ultegra and came with the aura pro handlebars.

I think the only downside to the P2s is that they come with Shimano training wheels which you can't add a disc cover to if you were so inclined. Not nearly a deal breaker, but one of those things that if all else were equal...that my swing your decision.

If your set on the P2, I'd save the money and go with the 2012.

I recently got a 2008 P2C frame and I was told by a LBS that the frame has not changed at all since then.
The only critique I have about the P2C is that the stack is pretty high and due to the long steer tube, you can't get really low on the bike.
It seems that in the long run I will be needing a bike with a lower stack (I am 6'6" with a 36 inseam = long torso & short legs)
