New user 1351 Austin, Texas | Subject: Arm cooler sleeves I saw a lot of people wearing these white sleeves at IMTX that were joined at the back. Google search de soto cool wings and you'll see what I mean. Anybody have experience with these? Do they actually keep you that much cooler? Master 2855 Kailua, Hawaii | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I used De Soto arm coolers for IMWA and they worked well for bike and run. A little chafing from the elastic on the armpit area, but nothing horrible. |

Veteran 293 Somewhere training in Rocklin, CA | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I wore De Soto arm coolers, not the wings, at the hot/humid/windy Hawaii HIM last weekend. They work well, the trick is keeping them wet as once they dry out they're just more clothing. |

287 | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I also wear the Desoto arm coolers for sun protection. When wet, they provide cooling relief. I like them. As for the coolwings, I am waiting for the price to drop before making a purchase. |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I wore them in IMTX 2011 on the bike and was a dummy and took them off for the run because they weren't "cute". I wore them again at St George this year (80s and sunny) for the bike and run and they were amazing. I crammed a cup of ice down each arm at every aid station on the run and I was never warm. Other people looked like they were roasting and I was perfectly cool. As a bonus: if you get thirsty mid-way through between aid stations, you can chew on some ice. I'm pretty much wearing them for every hot race I do. |

Member 51 Park Ridge | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves Is ice at the aid stations the cooling mechanism for these things, water would work as well right just not as cool/cold? |

Regular 107 Kansas City | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I wore the Desoto sleeves for IM70.3 KS yesterday. They work well for sun protection and are noticeably cooler when they are wet. I did not really need them for the cooling as it only got up to around 75. They were a pain in the butt to get on correctly in T1. At aid stations I poured water on them which worked out very well. I did get burned on my back. I would be interested to know if the wings are easier to get on. |

Extreme Veteran 1018 | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I asked about arm sleeves awhile ago. Advice was to go with De Soto. I didn't get the wings. Just the sleeves. They are perfect. Squirt water on them and they cool for awhile. Used them at a 70.3 and I did not get a sunburn. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I have the wings. The first few times I wore them I didn't like them - made me feel almost 'feverish' as sections of me were much cooler than the rest. I put them away for about a year and then pulled them back out last year to find I really enjoyed them. Keeping them wet makes a night and day difference. |

Extreme Veteran 845 | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I used the cool wings last year at IM Louisville and I really do believe they made a difference. I like the wings as they helped keep my neck and shoulder from burning. I did not wear them on the run as I wasn't comfortable wearing them while running, something was bugging me so I felt it was worth the time to take them off then deal with them bugging me the entire time. They are a little hard to get on when you are wet, but with practice it is doable. |

Veteran 439 Denver area | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves At St G, I put my sleeves on and THEN got into my wetsuit (full sleeved). I really didn't want to wrestle into those things in T1. When the are wet, they really are COLD. Its really impressive. I just added the ice for added cooling since I tend to overheat easy. |

Regular 273 | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I bought some De Soto arm coolers for the BSLT 70.3 in a few weeks where it's likely to be 100 degrees. Question to those who race in them...do you wear them for the swim as well, or do you just put them on in T1? As long as it takes me to put them on when dry, I fear it would take me 5 minutes to get them onto wet arms in T1. So I was considering swimming in them as well, though I haven't tried that out yet. |

Master 1366 PNW | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I've used the cool wings for a couple of years for biking. I love the sun protection and while I do absolutely love them here in the PNW where the summer sun is clear and strong and the air is dry...they were less effective when I wore them biking in the hazy, humidity of the NC summer. I even wear them for gardening because I'd rather put these on instead of wearing sun screen! |

I wear the black Desoto Skin Cooler top to run in all the time. I think it works well. I like my Zoot Sleeves the best of all brands I have though. |

Expert 859 Perth, Australia | Subject: RE: Arm cooler sleeves I have both the sleeves and the wings and found them amazing. Here in Perth we're under the hole in the ozone so our sun index is often classed as 'extreme' so anything that cools me down is brilliant. Keeps me from having to wear really heavy sunblock too, I can get away with something less thick which is way more comfy. |

I put them on in T1. If you pre-roll them it's no big deal. They go on super quick. IF you have a sleeved wetsuit and can fit them under the sleeves I think it would be fine to wear them under the wetsuit. I don't think I could stand wearing them with a sleeveless...I would feel like they were slowing me down on the swim. BSLT is really toasty. :D My favorite race! They can be useful on the run in addition to the bike! |

I can try it in the pool but don't want to expose them too much to chlorine. I'll try getting them onto wet arms at home and see how that goes. |

I swam with them in my 70.3 last month. Under full sleeve wetsuit. I didn't want to have to deal with them wet in T1. It was humid and I was being cooled first thing on the bike. |

I think the drag from the sleeves while swimming would be pretty bad. I'd wrestle them on in T1. |
