Overall Rank = 366/500
Age Group = Athena U39
Age Group Rank = 2/2
Event warmup:

stretch, swim
Swim
  • 12m 20s
  • 580 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

I don't get the swim time- I thought it was faster. I had the second fastest time of ALL Athenas (13 of them). I was really happy with it, didn't stop too much.... but the clock don't lie. I want to keep it under 2:00/100.
Transition 1
  • 03m 51s
Comments:

LOOONG run from swim to T. It shows, my T time was 6 out of all 13 Athenas. I don't kick much when I swim but I"m out of breath so can't run well after a swim, plus it was on semi-soft sand.
What would you do differently?:

run faster out of the water.
Bike
  • 44m 12s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Beat the other girl in my division in this one. 7/13 out of all Athenas. Must learn to climb better- the bridges were killer! Got passed on the way up. Even in my lowest gear, it was hard. We hit some hills in neighborhoods- nice ones though, can't help but look around. Some of the roads were definitely rough. It was fun going down the bridges- I was scared of it in advance, but once I got it going, it's like WHEEEEEE!!! I hit 34 mph- OMG fast for me!!!
What would you do differently?:

Learn to climb. The uphill climbs lowered my average speed- but I noticed my bike said "19, 20" a lot. Made me happy :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

the bike racks were high- hard to rack the bike back. Luckily nobody was back yet, so plenty of room. tied with chick in my division, and we tied for first out of all the Athenas. I didn't change my socks this time. sucked some gatorade, blew nose and off I go.
Run
  • 35m 3s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

of course, I fall apart here. I was trying to neg-split this. I only walked the water stops. Got a side stitch. On the way back in, I started gettig pain on a toe- and realized since I didn't get a pedicure, my pinky toenail was too long and it was scratching against the toe next to it, which was highly irritating. At the final leg, I tried my best to giddyup, but my legs just didn't have it in them.
What would you do differently?:

more bricks. Learn to run a decent 5K. 8/13 all Athenas
Post race
Warm down:

walk, pant, the usual. Ice cold towels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my running sucks. And having my chronic health problem flare up this week didn't help either. I was home crying after the race in pain. (feel a bit better now, though)

Event comments:

This was put on by the St Anthony's people. First year for it, sold out. They gave incentive (which I didn't know about till after I already registered) that each AG winner will receive a GUARANTEED spot at St Anthony's next year and also 50 bucks off the entry fee. So I was pretty upset that I missed out, the first place in my division was a 26 year old tall and skinny chick. They didn't mark C or A on the calves, or R or N for that matter, and she was right ahead of me, it was close. I wonder, if I knew she was in front of me, I would've kicked it harder.

I'm comparing myself to all the Athenas because next year I age up.  They are fast in that division and they always seem to have a larger group.

Yeah, it would have been nice to have the swim and T1 in teh same time zone. Ok I might be exaggerating just a bit. Those bridges sure are fun to fly down. I was glad to see you on the run. Congrats on the hardware!!

You look great in the BT duds! Sorry you didn't get a guaranteed entry into St. A's- that would have been pretty sweet...
