Subject: 70.3 in the Northeast? Where have they all gone
Ok, so I have been away from the boards for a while and away from the sport for about 18 months or so. I finished the inaugural Pococnos 70.3 as my first half IM and then got a little side tracked, a little tight with funds and a little burned out. I am back up and training now and looking at possible Half IM events for next year but the official M-DOT list for 70.3 is pretty thin in the Northeast no? I looked briefly at Raleigh for June1 but that would be a inaugural as well and I am not sure I am ready for that level of travel (we have a(nother) new born, well three month old).
Any other ideas for Halfs for 2014 that maybe are not MDOT branded? I live in NJ but would travel by car a couple to a few hours away.

Thanks gang!

Shoreman in Port Republic, NJ

Quakerman in Quakertown, PA

Toughman in Croton-on-Hudson, NY

Diamondman in Bear, DE

Black Bear in Lehighton, PA

Eagleman 70.3 in Cambridge, MD

There are plenty of options if you are not constrained by m-dot events. Those are just a few I thought of quickly.

There's the Patriot Half in MA. Also, if you end up deciding you do want to do another M dot event, but would rather do a more established one, there's Timberman in NH.

It's too bad that the Poconos and Rhode Island 70.3's went away, but, if you do want to stick to IM-branded races, there's still Syracuse and Timberman which are both really good.

There is one in the works for summer 2014 in NJ at Mercer County Park (same spot NJ State Tri) no specifics or details available as of yet

Norwalk, CT. End of June. It's a small event but fairly close to you.

Fetcher99, thanks for the info on the Mercer Co one. That would be even better than the Poconos. I love the NJ State Tri but over the past couple of years, I have struggled in the heat, so I have not participated. I love the venue and the roads around that area a re so nice. Would be good to ahve the home field advantage there too.

Do you know what company is putting the race on? Is it CGI?

Unfortunately I can't say at this time who is organizing it since it has not officially been announced. I only know about it because of some connections in the local police departments.

Sun Multisports is putting on the New England Tri Fest in Fairlee, VT on June 30 for the first time this year. I'll let you know how it goes! Also, don't forget Timberman in NH, Pumpkinman in ME, and Quassy in CT (REV3 race).

Bassman in early October is near Atlantic City in the Bass River State Park. Flat bike, flat run, and a nice group of organizers.

No one mentioned the Syracuse 70.3, which was just last Sunday. Great race--look into it for 2014

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
