Subject: RE: Heart Rate Monitor I originally started with a Garmin FR70. A nice, solid device, lots of compatibility, but no GPS or anything fancy.
A month ago, I ponied up for a Garmin 910xt. In retrospect, I should have bought one from the start. The sheer amount of data it provides (cadence, speed, heart rate, elevation, temperature . . . ) provide a great tool for analysis, even if you only use it for calories, time, and distance.
Generally speaking, the higher-end devices will give you better calorie burn information ( DC Rainmaker has a post about calorie calculations), and by the time you think about a decent cycling computer (I had a Garmin Edge 500 ), the 910xt makes a lot of sense for one-stop shopping.
