Sunny
Total Time = 2h 41m 41s
Overall Rank = 43/101
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30am had breakfast and ate a Clif Bar ~1 hour before the race started
Event warmup:

Did some light running (maybe 1/2 mile) with some dynamic stretching. Then went into the water to get use to it.
Swim
  • 28m 35s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had people swimming over top of me, got kicked, and I had a few issues on the first lap with sighting. I found the wrong buoy and went the wrong way.
What would you do differently?:

More practice sighting.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

I got 1st in my age group and 8th overall for this transition so I think it went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

More practice mounting bike with shoes in peddles. I stopped for a few seconds because I wasn't all to comfortable with it.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 32s
  • 23.55 miles
  • 18.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Definitely room for improvement here. Not sure if I could have pushed it more and been okay for the run still, but I'm okay with the overall pace I think.
What would you do differently?:

Log more miles on the bike, its a weak area for me still.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

5th in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

I had trouble getting my feet in my shoes so I had to sit down to put them on. Also could have threw my race number on during T1 as I was fumbling with that a bit too at the same time.
Run
  • 53m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

For me this was a really good run. Ran this faster than my last 5K so I am pleased with the overall pace.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have pushed it a little bit more in the last 1 or 2 miles, but overall I am pleased with this time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and did a short run and then walked some more. Chocolate milk was not a good thing to drink right after!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike training, I started late in the season to log serious miles.

Event comments:

I stayed to see the awards but left shortly after, didn't stay for food or anything so can't comment on post race activities too much, other than they did start awards fairly quick after the race.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
