I was getting a lot of flats with my speedy Michelins. Switched to a Continental Gator Skin on the back tire only. Will this slow me down?
My 70.3 ironman races are around 5:30 for reference to my speed. Thanks for your thoughts.

Short answer...yes, the gatorskin will slow you down.

They don't call them race tires for a reason?  How old were your tires when you started getting more flats?  Race tires are much softer and don't last as long.  Some tires may only last a few hundred miles (depending on what type of roads you're riding on) before they get a little thin and become more prone to punctures.

Well I had my first ride on my new Conti GP 4000 today and was almost 1mph faster on the same course than with my gatorskins. So yes.

I replaced my Kenda contenders with the Mavic Yskium Pro and was also 1 mph faster.

Thanks, yes picked up Michelin Pro 4 for my 70.3 this weekend in Mont Tremblant. Feel good riding this week, see how they do in the race.

Which version? There are 4 versions of the Pro 4 and the Service Course with latex tubes has the same Crr as a GP4000S with butyl tubes (data here). The others will be faster or slower than the SC.

One procedure for changing a tire that you might learn from, but certainly don't want to follow precisely!
