I did it last year, and plan on doing it again this year.

It's the only oly I've done. Water was warm, bike was ok, only one big hill towards the end, and a loop on the run, which makes you go through a big hill twice.

I found it a bit challenging for my first Oly, but looking forward on doing it this year, and improve time wise a lot.

Two years ago when I did it, Setup had the water temp measured at 90 degrees. The warm water temps bothered me and was the slowest Oly swim to date, by a large margin.

Bike is typical Lake Norman rolling hills. Nothing spectacular, nothing too hard. Hopefully they fix the bottle hand off...was at the bottom of a long hill when I did it...worst place you could put it.

Run...well it is what it is. A mind numbing double loop through a neighborhood with a pretty steep hill around the 2m mark that you get to go up twice. If you are a good runner, not an issue. If running is a weakness, you will curse it out, especially second time through.

I can't really say anything bad about the race (other than packet pickup was slooooooow). Everything went as expected. I just didn't like the hot water and double loop. The race was a one and done for me. After they moved Stumpy to the same date as Lake Logan, Lake Logan Oly became the staple on my race calendar. Unfortunately this year we are moving that weekend so no racing anywhere that date.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info...I won't bother with the bottle hand-off, so not really an issue. One bottle is more than enough for that distance (for me). Mind numbing runs are my specialty.

Did you drive up the morning of, or did you stay in a hotel? if so, which one?

I live in CLT so just drove up that morning. There are plenty of hotels at exit 36 though if you go that route. Very little traffic at that time of day if you drive up.

It may also be because the swim is long. Like almost 300 yards long. Everyone's splits are super slow, but the water temp doesn't help either.

I'll be back this year for the 3rd time. I'm doing Stumpy instead of Lake Logan because of the water temp. My "A" race in September will not be wetsuit legal, so I didn't want my last tune up race to be in a wetsuit.

I could see it being 300 long. I remember looking at my watch when I got out thinking WTF and wondered if passed out somewhere. I also remember thinking on the swim that I should have put some shrimp in my tri shorts as they would have been full cooked by the finish and would have made a nice snack on the bike!
