Subject: Late August Race Recommendation?
For a number of years I did a small race called Escape from Crystal Lake in Beulah, MI at the end of August. It was an awesome course, but they could never get more than 50 or 60 participants so it fizzled out around 2009. Then last year I did Battle of Waterloo, but that race is also off this year due to low number of entries.

So that leaves me looking for a late August or early September event. I had been thinking of rev3 Cedar Point or the 3D Festival at Tawas but I am not going to be up for a 70.3 in 2 months time and that weekend isn't particularly good for my schedule. Any recommendations for events between August 10th and September 2nd? Any smaller races that aren't on the Trifind calendar?

Element Events (http://www.elementevents.com) has a tri on August 18th ("Summer") and Sept 5th ("Fall").  They hold both Olympic and Sprint distances.

(For future reference, I'd recommend Running Fit's Trex Tri series.  There's one in August.  Just sold out earlier today.) (http://www.runtrextri.com/)

I'm a big fan of the Ludington Lighthouse race. Scheduled for Aug 18. Make a weekend out of it up there if you can, except the local hotel rooms are probably long since sold out.

The swim is in Lake Michigan between two piers, so it is pretty calm since it is protected. The bike and the run are both pretty flat, which means you can hammer it and probably have a PR. They offer sprint and Olympic.

There is the Barefoot tri in traverse city. The swim is in crystal clear water the bike course is hilly but fun, the run is my least favorite. There is sprint and oly.

I second the Ludington Lighthouse. I am getting back from 7 months away on August 2nd and I am already signed up. The swim is calm and clear, and the bike and run are flat, but beautiful along the shore.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Ludington may be the choice if I can work out the logistics. Barefoot would be another option.

Has anyone done the Traverse City Triathlon?

I didn't catch where you live, but if you're near the Brighton area, Zukey Lake Tavern hosts a sprint in mid-August. It's slightly unorganized, but it's perfect for us who aren't serious about racing.

Wow...is this the first year of that Boyne event??? I'm not a threat to steal any of that money, but damn. That's a nice purse!

First year for the Boyne event, it should be real nice. Check out the rest of the Tri to Finish races, they're all great. Best race shirts too!

I will be racing barefoot this year but I also really like Reeds Lake Tri. If your looking for a big race with lots of fast people I would recommend Reeds Lake. If you are looking for a smaller race in a beautiful area with great post race food and a party in the evening I say barefoot.

I'm signing up for the Traverse City Triathlon Aug 18th.
I have a friend who did it a few years ago and loved it. Highly recommended. Should be a blast racing on old mission peninsula!

These are my favorite races of the year.

Also... I'm moving out of town, so if you want to do this race, let me know and I can sell you my entry for CHEAP. I've already talked to the RD. Just let me know!

We're moving to Eugene, Oregon.
This happens in July.
http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid...

That means that all the races I've signed up for need to be sold!
I'll miss Michigan.

Congratulations on your move! Sorry we never got a chance to swim together.

If you're trying to sell multiple registrations, why not put up a post with the ones the RDs have authorized you to sell? I can't commit to any yet as I am still rehabbing my leg (won't commit to anything until I know I can train), but I might eventually take a look!
