Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 08m 28s
Overall Rank = 43/57
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/2
Pre-race routine:

Drove in from MA where we'd been for Dan's 1/2 Iron Race. Picked up packet, got changed, got transition set up.
Event warmup:

Did get to do a short swim warm up.
Swim
  • 13m 1s
  • 400 meters
  • 03m 15s / 100 meters
Comments:

I didn't have a good swim. I hadn't done 1 full open water swim yet, and this wasn't the best start.
What would you do differently?:

Have many more open water swims under my belt
Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

I feel this leg is my strong point
What would you do differently?:

Get my breathing under control in the swim so it wasn't still high for the bike.
Bike
  • 27m 18s
  • 7.2 miles
  • 15.74 mile/hr
Comments:

This isn't accurate for rank - they didn't seperate the splits, this is the rank of swim + T1 + Bike. I hammered the bike and passed many. Some passed me back on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Get my breathing under control sooner
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

This time is a guess based on the over all time. It was probably longer, which means my run was faster.
Run
  • 22m
  • 2 miles
  • 11m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

There wasn't water on the course, but that was fine for 2 miles. I knew this and tried to drink on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pick up the pace more. I didn't have a good gage because I don't have the garmin set up to show pace or heart rate when it's in the multi sport setting. I have to figure out how to fix this.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched while waiting for Dan to get there - he'd volunteered to help on the course while I was out on the bike - so he wasn't done when I finished the run.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing the run course well enough, see above.

Event comments:

Maybe it'll get better if it keeps going and with more participants.

Cotswold super sprint - UK. Lots of bodies colliding, I swam half over someone, got kicked by some bloody breaststroker, and as a mob we poured towards the first buoy.

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Some would say there are easier ways to get in shape, and they are probably right. My first worry was being able to squeeze into a wetsuit by race day.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
