Subject: Downtown Milwaukee Pool

Was hoping somebody could help me out.  I'm in Milwaukee for work and want to get as swim in.  I'm staying at the Hilton downtown (555 W Wisconsin Ave).  Does anybody know of a pool within walking distance?  I took the amtrak in to avoid the awesome (not really) drive from Chicago to Milwaukee so I am without wheels.  Thanks.

Matt

Check with the Hilton as several Downtown hotels have agreements with the Wisconsin Athletic Club (WAC). WAC members can swim at the Milw Athletic Club Pool that is on Broadway and Mason street. I'm not aware of any public pool right downtown.

There is also Golds Gym downtown at 735 N Water St. I know they have a pool and perhaps you could get a one-day pass?

There are also pools at Marquette University, which isn't far west. I think you can get day passes.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

When I swim I struggle to get a full breath and consequently run down faster. I spend part of my training on the side of the pool gasping for air.

Most of us belong to groups and there will always be pressure to keep up. It may be underlying or it may be outright, but no doubt, that pressure to go faster is always there.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.

Once you caught your breath, it occurred to you that finishing even a short triathlon might be harder than you thought. After a few "laps" you thought, "I can't believe I'm so out of shape."

Good swimming is relaxed swimming. Relaxed swimming depends on practicing the best techniques and the best body position.
