Subject: Brooks Pure Flow - how many miles before replacing?

I'm in my first pair of Brooks Pure Flows after years of Dyad's.  I've always been a mid-foot striker and have gradually evolved to a fore-foot strike (by design) which is why I went to a minimal drop shoe such as the pure flow.

Normally I easily got 400-450 miles before noticing the need to replace the Dyads, and before that the Nimbus's.

I'm at 340 miles on the pure flows and it feels as though the fore-foot area is completely broken down...Like there's "hole" where the fore-foot meets the pavement.. This isn't an overnight thing either, I just hadn't really connected the dots on how the shoe began to feel...I'd say it was probably

I should add that I'm 220 pounds so no gazelle here...

Just wondering what others who wear the pure flows experience.  I love the shoes or loved them until what appears to be the breaking down of the shoe.. 300 miles is decent but I assumed I'd get closer to 400 before replacement..

Thanks.

I don't wear the Brooks but another softer, neutral shoe and after about 300 miles I get the same dead feel in them.  When I wore a heavier stability shoe I generally wore the tread out before I felt a loss of characteristics with the shoe itself.  I think it is the nature of the materials and design of some of these newer shoes.

I have about 350 miles on my Pure Flows, most shoes usually last me 400-500 miles. I weigh 155.

Similar to popsracer, I didn't notice the breakdown in the "cushioned" shoe category until I could visually see it which was typically closer to 450 miles...

While I'm disappointed my pure flows didn't get that far, I'm much happier running in that type of shoe...

I just ordered a closeout pair online for $69 shipped so I feel better now..

Smart shopper...I don't think I could stomach the nearly $300 for the four pairs (at closeout prices) even knowing I'll pay a lot more buying them individually...

My new pair is in transit and I'm fairly sure the first run will validate it was time to replace the old ones..

If you are a fitness exerciser, you are unlikely to need extra electrolytes to replace those lost in sweat. If you exercise hard for more than four hours in the heat, replacment may be needed.

Soon after I got married, I decided I needed to get motivated to work out and focus on getting back into shape. I could barely jog a quarter-mile without needing a walk break.

This video tutorial will show you how to fix a flat tire and also how to change the tire itself. Don't wait until you're out on the course at the races to learn how.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
