I am behind in my plan. I did 13 on Saturday and felt good afterwards. I got another 8 miles in this morning.

I'm waaaayyyy behind in my plan. I was in Colorado and Wyoming for 2 weeks and I didn't run once. I managed to do some short yoga sets, swim with my kids a lot, and eat about 50 pounds of bacon. I'll be paying for it all Saturday morning.

Love Breck -- I used to ride from Keystone to Breck over Swan Mountain Pass a few times a week when we'd visit. Or from Keystone up to Montezuma, which, by the way, is scary for a skinny dude in lots of lycra. I swore I heard dueling banjos.

Oh hey can I join this thread?
Doing Chicago for the 2nd year in a row, but fundraising this year for an official charity (link in signature line if any of my BT family would like to donate!).

Coming off of Vineman 140.6 at the end of July it's been mentally difficult for me to pick up and marathon train. My long run Sunday was 16 miles but it was slow and it hurt. Hoping these next few longs runs are good to give me a confidence boost.

LMAO- yeah, there's some "intersin peeples" up that way. I didn't bring a bike this time around, but one of my favorite training rides was from D'town Breck to Copper Mountain. Tons of amazing trails to run on, too. I was a much stronger athlete when I lived there, but I had to do what was best for my kids.

Helloooo peeps. It's been sort of a disappointing week for me. Started having some slight Achilles troubles last week; nothing major, just a little pain after push off and some inflammation. Did the usual; a little icing, a little taping, lots of self massage. Only started feeling it on Saturday's 15 mile run around mile 13. Little sore after the run.

Went for some ART last night, thought it was feeling better, but today at the end of the run I started getting shooting pains on certain steps. I think it's just because my legs are sore from getting beat up. But I'm going to do tomorrow on the treadmill at the gym so I can switch to the bike if needed. Booo......   This stinks!

Well, my 16 miler was my most successful run of the season thus far. Hardly speedy, but I feel like I've hit a groove and I'm training well with a minimum amount of injury. Since I've got almost an extra month after Chicago for Naperville I'd say I'm where I need to be.

20 miler is on the horizon now :D

20 miles last weekend and 47 for the week. Feeling pretty spent - recovery week coming up.

On a different note - looks like temps are going to jump into 90s this week. Stay cool and hydrated everyone. I am getting my flashlight ready for some pre-dawn running to beat the heat.

Well, Chicago Triathlon is done - I made some very poor nutrition decisions that left me getting checked out by the medics, but I finished and I'm fine now, and I was *not* DFL. My triathlon season is now over, for better or worse.

Quick recovery run this morning, and some easy running this week, and back at it full bore next week.

Good job on not being DFL. I doubted you would even I was not DFL last year and I was only able to train really for a month for it. . Oly tri I think of as running 16 miles so its great training.

We ran for two hours starting at 530am. And it was still nasty hot.

Hi all - If I skip the 5 mile run and instead bike tomorrow, how long and at what effort do you suggest I bike at? 5 miles would take me about 50 minutes.

Trying to deal with this achilles. Thanks.

It's hard for me to compare running and cycling, since I think they are vastly different... but for me, if I wanted to cross train and try to match a 5 mile run via bike in terms of effort, I would probably ride 30miles at least at a 16mph ride.

I like the 4 to 1 rule myself. I would bike 20 miles for 5 miles at the same PE as you would for the run.

I have heard sports docs say minute for minute so a 50 min run would turn into a 50 min bike

awesome. I also learned if things are tight and painful the first thing is to break out the old stick/foam roller. They solve so many problems.

Totally agreed! I don't go a day without my foam roller. But, admittedly, I use it more on my IT bands, quads, and hammies then my calves. More foam rolling, I guess!

Had a great long run (16 miles) Sunday, first "great" long run training for this race.

Anyone else doing a run/walk combo? Right now I'm doing a 10:1 run/walk and it's working pretty well.

18 miles Saturday!

I ran about 10.5 miles on Saturday (out of the 13 my plan called for) while Monica was on the bike (in the 100-degree heat) and then did 6.55 miles with her when she returned from her ride. It was so hot. I honestly didn't know if I could do anymore.

Ran a simulated half on Saturday, with an impromptu aid station in front of my house. The cops stalking the speed trap by my house must have thought I was nuts, since I ran past him about 8 times. Finished in 2:05, which is a huge improvement over my last time of 2:33, so I'm really happy with it.

Dreading next week's 16+ mile LSD, because (a) it's 16 or more miles, and (b) I'll be in Wisconsin, and the word "flat" doesn't apply at all there.

I'm probably going to sign up for the Schaumburg 20-miler on 9/21, since it fits well in my schedule. Anyone else looking at that one?

I can't say it enough, the feeling of treading water for that final minute, helicopters over head, Mike Riley's Iron-voice over the P.A. - just awesome. I cannot believe I'm here!
