GatorDeb is racing in her first IM at Coeur d'Alene today.  She has started some of the best threads ever here on BT.  Her threads are always able to both to hold your interest and never fail to spark great discussions that everyone can learn from.

She's wearing bib #531.  http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/coverage/athlete-tracker.aspx?race=coeurdalene&y=2013#axzz2X3uK4u81

She's out of the water in 1:48, and appears to be on the bike.

Let's all join in today to cheer her on!

Go Deb!

Nice swim Deb!

You are holding steady on the bike...look forward to see your pace on next check point after 42 miles or half way it appears.

We are know you are strong and determined.

Yeah, it looks like she's holding a decent pace through the flatter portion of the bike. Once she gets in the hills the pace should get slower. Nice and steady!

Not to derail the thread, but it looks like pro triathlete BTer Thomas Gerlach is having a good day, in 8th overall right now.

Also, go deb!

Go. Deb, go! You gotta admire her persistence and guts even to toe the starting line (more than I have!). She's worked hard for this, and come a long way despite (if it's to be believed) some misguided coaching. Hope the run goes well for her.

Assuming a 7am start and a 5:30 bike cutoff, she's got just over 3:30 to finish a 42 mile section that took her 3:01 on the first loop.  Her pace has slowed a tad according to the first few splits on the second loop compared to the first, but still within range with a little cushion.

She had it calculated down to the minute with lots of different scenarios right?  Looks like she's pacing just right for her.

What happens in an IM when people don't make cut-offs?  Do they actually pull you off the course?  Even if you're within minutes?  That would be heartbreaking!

Yes.  They pull athletes off the course who don't make cut offs--HIM and some Oly too.

x2.  They even pull you off if you miss it by a few seconds.

Go Deb, go!!!

Can someone explain to me why they're showing her 2.4mile split for the swim as 5:38/100m?  Is that just a computer glich?

Computer glitch, it's dividing her total time by 1.2 miles rather than 2.4. Her actual pace is half that, or ~2:49/100m

I noticed that earlier too.  I think it's a problem with their formula.  It looks like it's adding her paces for the two laps instead of averaging them.

What if we applied the lesson of encouragement beyond race day? The right word at the right time can work wonders.

The day of the triathlon was one of the best days of my life. I felt strong and healthy. Lots of friends and family came to cheer me on. The support was overwhelming.
