Competitor Group

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 32m 28s
Overall Rank = 128/1014
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 18/93
Pre-race routine:

Packed night before. Banana in the morning at the hotel. Drive over to park. Pump tires, walk down to transition and setup. On the way down the hill I saw a bad bike accident. Somebody was biking while everybody else was walking and the guy must have just braked w/ the front brake. Next thing I know he goes over his bike in a somersault. He did a complete flip in the air. It was disturbing to watch. He needed medical attention immediately.
Event warmup:

None other than stretching arms out.
Swim
  • 16m 42s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

I'm happy with this result. My swimming is definitely improving. Making it a point to point swim with a time trial start was an improvement for this race.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out a way to get my HR down. It was too high and I came out of the water more tired than I would like to be for a sprint.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

One of these days I'll learn a flying start.

31/93 in AG
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Bike
  • 45m 42s
  • 25.3 kms
  • 33.18 km/hr
Comments:

I had a few situations where I found it difficult to pass people. I stuck to my game plan to charge up the one hill. I definitely burned a match doing that on both laps but it was worth it.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

If I could run faster through transition this time would have been better.

31/93 in AG
Run
  • 26m 16s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 17s  min/km
Comments:

I haven't been able to run a lot lately because of shin splints. As such, I'm just happy that I didn't completely fall apart on this run.
Post race
Warm down:

Hang out and wait for drcherrybomb to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run was bad. Unfortunately I've been hampered by shin splints. I need to lose weight.

Event comments:

This is my third time doing this race. I really recommend it and will likely do it again. They used to have better finisher medals, but since switching to TriRock, the medal isn't as good as it was.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
