Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:00. English muffin with PB and some coffee. Out the door at 5:30.
Swim
  • 13m 30s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

The time trial start was cool. I haven't done a race with that type of start before.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

3rd fastest T1 in AG
Bike
  • 43m 6s
  • 15.7 miles
  • 21.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Left shoe un-clicked from my pedal while trying to get my foot in, but I managed to get clicked in and everything was fine. There is only one section of hills and I did not do well on them. Much slower than the last 2 years.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more and focus on hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Got out of my shoes a little early (before the turn-around). I didn't want to have to navigate through people while getting my feet out. Went into the rack before mine and wasted a few seconds. 7th fastest T2 in AG
Run
  • 20m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Solid run. I kept it at a pretty comfortable level. With some more discomfort I certainly could have gone faster.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
