Comments:

Great swim overall. I tore the leg of my wetsuit getting into it so I kept thinking about it. The course was nice and long on each side so it was easy to navigate around people.
Transition 1

Forgot my bento box so I had to stuff all my crap into my jersey.
Bike

  • 21.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew going in that this was going to be a struggle with my back. The first hour is mostly climbing which kept me out of aero but the last 20miles are mostly downhill requiring me to go aero and that really hammered the nail in my coffin. Power through mile 25 was 249watts. Last 30miles I struggled to hold form, keep losing focus and my power sunk to 188watts. At the end I was forced to just right upright as my entire back and neck were in a ball.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

i hopped off the bike and tried stretching out but i got no movement. Sat down and put my shoes on and then headed out of T1.

Comments:

Immediately I could feel things weren't right. My chest was so tight I was having trouble breathing and my gait was a mess. I made it through mile 1 at 730 pace and was just trying to push but the first uphill just crushed my hopes. By mile 2 I stopped at the aid station and tried getting myself collected. I drank some fluids and it just came right back up. That was the final nail in the coffin. 11 more miles was just no going to happen.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked the 2miles back and went straight to the massage tent. When I got there I couldn't touch my knees I was so coiled up. After 45mins I was able to make it half way to my toes. I laid on the grass with ice packs on my lower back until VIc crossed the line.

X2, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get to finish but man you had an awesome swim and bike. That run course is tough to begin with add the heat and humidity to that it was downright brutal.

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
