Set Up Events
Total Time = 1h 39m 32s
Overall Rank = 139/166
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 4/6
Pre-race routine:

Stayed locally overnight. My first tri - so nothing really...
Swim
  • 17m 19s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Terrible swim! Thought that I would find it ok as I'm generally an ok swimmer - but had a nightmare. Panicked, couldn't breathe, couldn't keep crawl going - was doing breaststroke within 100m. My entire game plan went out the window in less than a minute.
What would you do differently?:

I need some coaching and lots of practice..!!
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

T1 was very slow. Didn't think that putting socks on would take so long (wet feet does that apparently). Everything else just seemed to drag on.
What would you do differently?:

Think a bit more on the transition and practice.
Bike
  • 49m 53s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Was quite happy with the bike considering. No clip ins, lost the chain on the last hill - so that slowed me a little. Everything else was as good as I could expect.
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on the hills. Think about getting clip-ins and aerobars.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Got the wobbles a little when coming off the bike. Cycled in my running shoes, so just dropped off the bike and carried on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 29m 4s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 54s  min/km
Comments:

My run was bad. Couldn't keep it going - ended up walking up the hills and running down them. I seriously have to question the time... should have been more.
What would you do differently?:

Better training, use HRM.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing serious, just had some fruit, drinks and snacks...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Practice, experience and training.

Event comments:

My first race, so it has to be the best! It was a good experience, whetted my appetite to do another. My goal was really just to complete it, so mission accomplished I guess.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

All you have to do is say you’re a triathlete and you intimidate the whole world. No matter how much you bench press or what you lift or how many squats you can do.
