Sunny
Total Time = 1h 18m 45s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdales
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Ate a banana and a peanut butter and honey sandwich for breakfast. Packed the car and drove the 25 miles to the race site.
Event warmup:

Set up transition, stretched, swam 150m., ate a Gu.
Swim
  • 06m 10s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty good swim for me. Passed 6 people in the pool. Breathing was good. Left lens of my goggle took on some water and that kinda slowed me down. I was out of the water in 5:15, long run to transition over asphalt and grass.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Slow transition, running in through recently cut grass I had to spend some extra time removing grass clippings from my feet. Put my socks and shoes on grabbed my bike and exited transition. Again this week there were a lot of people riding through transition, unlike last week someone was telling them to get off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 41m 46s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 17.99 mile/hr
Comments:

First bump that I hit leaving town my RH bar-end shifter popped free of the aero bar and was hanging. That was a nice way to start off. Passed a few people on the bike and never got passed so that is a good thing I guess. On the out portion we were into a decent headwind.
What would you do differently?:

After the race I took the bike to the shop to have new aerobars installed and a full tune-up. 2 mechanical issues in the last 2 races. Don't want anything like that happening next weekend.
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

Pretty average T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 28m 18s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. Reduced my mile pace by nearly 1:45 over last weekend. I obviously don't think I improved that drastically in a week, but I do think I figured out how to better pace myself over 3.1 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, packed up transition. Ate a few pieces of pizza.

Here's where it got interesting... the awards. My name gets called for 1st place in the Clydesdales division and I go up to get my medal and they give me the 2nd place medal. The guy that won the 40-44 AG gave the 2nd place in AG his 1st place medal and took the 1st place Clydesdales medal instead, even though he wasn't registered as a Clydesdale. The race director does nothing to fix the situation and tells me "tough luck" Am I wrong to be a little irritated by this? I did hear someone else tell him it was a dick move... he just laughed it off and said "oh well."

Event comments:

Other than the race director letting people change divisions at the awards it was a good race.

At first I thought, "Oh boy, what a mistake!" Let’s face it, I could barely run half a mile, I had not swum in forever, and my biking skills were not great, to say the least.

My sister warned me about being used as a launch ramp by faster swimmers but much to my surprise I was the one swimming over those in front of me. I went around one woman, then another.
