Doing my first HIM could use some advice;

I am in the thick of my HIM training (not following a specific plan, but I have a routine down) and have a sprint tri (500yd/17mi/5k) in two weeks.  Would you guys taper at all for this?  I usually run and swim on Fridays.  My swim is definitely lacking so I don't want to skip a workout for the swim.

I usually run 6-7 miles on Friday, I'm thinking of just taking this off, and leaving it at that.  Sound prudent?  I'm sure it will vary from person to person, but just curious to see what you would do.

FWIW as well, this was the first ever triathlon I did last year.  I want to do well so I can crush my time from last year, but at the same time this is not my A race this year.

This race will also be about practicing transitions, it will be the first time I will use a wetsuit.  Could make T1 interesting.

Personally, I probably would not taper and cut the Friday run to 5 miles easy or keep it at 6-7 if running is a strength. Like you said it varies person to person and your base. Good Luck!

I can't imagine tapering for a sprint once you reach a point in your training/lifestyle where many of your workouts are virtually the same as a sprint tri.  I agree with using it to work on transitions, etc......but unless your sprint is your A race, what would be the point of tapering?

If it was me I'd move my run to Thursday and cut back to an easy 3 or 4 miles.  Light spin and/or short swim on Friday.  I race a lot during the season and my week is geared to either big training effort or race on Saturday so my light days are typically Thursday/Friday.  I'd probably try to get in a short run later in the day after the race and then carry on with normal training.

You bring up a valid point, although this is not my A race I would still like to perform well.

Thursday is also a run day for me.  I don't know if I would go for a run Saturday, but was thinking of the bike.  17 miles would not be enough biking for the day for me.  Then continue with my normal routine with my long run on Sunday.

Thanks for the input guys,  I think I am just over thinking this usual.  Just getting excited/nervous for the HIM

Keep in mind, "performing well" in a race that is not your A race can take on any forms.  My son races at an elite level.....he practices in local races.  Just because he doesn't "perform well" in an overall finish doesn't mean he didn't accomplish his goal for the race as he works on different pieces.  Does that make sense?

I wouldn't crush the sprint if I were you...if the HIM is your target race.

mainly because you'll have a few days to get back to where you were (recovery) and then you will be tapering for the HIM.

If you go strong but not full bore in the sprint, you'll be able to finish up that last week push, and then drop into taper.

Just MO.

Could these fevers be related to my training and increased fatigue? Is there anything I can do to help prevent future occurrences? Or could it just be allergies combined with increased fatigue?
