Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal, coffee, 1/2 bottle power aid, 2 gels 15 min before the start
Event warmup:

2 bike excellerations, 4 swim start warm ups, 1/8 mile run
  • 5h 25m 4s
  • 300 yards
  • 1h 48m 22s / 100 yards

Forgot to breath after rounding the last bouy, started to hypervent
What would you do differently?:

Continue to swim sprint to get used to the increased heart rate of a sprint race
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s

Little slow, had my shoes slipped into a bag to stay dry it was raining when I set up transition. Also put on my number belt which normally I put on for the run.
  • 27m 56s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13.57 mile/hr

Good showing for me, I don't do any off road riding. My bike handleing was overall very good. The course this year was marked better and the trail was wider and the grassy areas cut lower.
What would you do differently?:

Ride off road more.

What would you do differently?:

Keep training

What limited your ability to perform faster:

T1 was slow

Event comments:

Great race at a very nice location. This is for the novice racer all the way to an advanced racer. One big plus I thought was cool, they allow life jackets for the beginners and non strong swimmers. it allows people to get there feet wet into the sport.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

A product review of the Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Shoe. After nearly two years of testing, see how this shoe performed. Currently being replaced by the Tri Air 2.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
