Total Time = 3h 07m
Overall Rank = 94/216
Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 17/36
Pre-race routine:

Spent the past week trying to get through the end of the school year then allday LAX tournament on Sat. for my son.

Up early to get to the 2 transitions. My son came with me and tagged along. It was nice to have him there.
Event warmup:

Not much - hanging out on the beach with my family
Swim
  • 42m 59s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Brutal swim yet again in the James River. So many people in the Half were pulled b/c they got caught in a current. All in all this was a pertty good swim for me. Yes it was slow but I made good progress and based upon time against other women better than average.
What would you do differently?:

Not swim in the James
Transition 1
  • 04m 58s
Comments:

long run up to the transition area from the beach. I jogged some and walk teh steeper parts.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 27s
  • 40 kms
  • 30.26 km/hr
Comments:

Pretty good. I came into this race with low expectations after my Half training fell apart. I was mostly in survival mode.

All in all a nice bike course and I rode fine. One super rough and slick stretch of road. I went very slowly. Still no aero. Just don't feel good on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Run
  • 58m 31s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 54s  min/km
Comments:

I was surprised by the hillyness of the course. I thought my pace was faster. I passed one person in my age group coming up the last hill but she passed me again towards the top. Fun in finish in the chute w/ my kiddos. That made the day worth it.
Post race
Warm down:

No transition bag, no food and funky results. Pretty much grabbed my stuff and hit the road for Busch Gardens. We had a great time spending the day there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me

Event comments:

There are some kinks for Rev3 to work out in Williamsburg. Love the organization so I hope they get things worked out.

You rocked that course!  Congratulations!

Brutal barely describes the swim conditions that day.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
