I can't believe it is finally gonna happen! Been working on this first tri FOREVER. lol Took me a year to get here. First I had to learn how to swim from scratch. Unless you count doggie paddle as swimming. That took a good 5 months. Then I got hurt and had to take a bunch of time off. Finally, I am ready and it is tomorrow. Why have I felt down all week? Maybe PMS. Could be nerves. Could be because my old knee injury from back in the beginning of the year is not doing too hot. I will be fine for the race but I know that I will need to cut back on my running after the race before it gets bad again. Anyway, I have to pick up my race packet this afternoon and there is a pre race meeting so that should get me pumped for tomorrow. That is all.

Thanks for the replies! I think I am just nervous. It will be good though. I have been a member of this site for over a year without an avatar. Gotta smile for some good pics that I can use for my first avatar!

You better go out there and beat everyone!!! Okay well maybe not that.....how about just go out there and have a blast. Yeah it'll be a challenge and you may have some problems to overcome, but your doing it. Remember the training is the hardwork and the race is the payoff. So go out there and get paid!!!! Don't forget to let us know how it goes.

Best wishes on your first. Be sure to take time to look around, talk to the folks who've racked their bikes next to you, and just enjoy the whole experience. There is nothing like a sunrise on the morning of a race.

Thanks for all the well wishes. It was a blast! I finished in about 1:28. The official times are not available yet. I still need to do a race report and add an avatar. The swim was probably my worst leg. It was a 750m serpentine swim. My time (according to my garmin) was not that great but I killed it on the bike leg. Passed fools left and right. As a result there wasn't much left for the run but I was still happy with the split on that. Good luck to anyone getting ready for their first. It is so worth it! I cannot wait to do another!

Hoooray! Sounds like you had a great race! Don't forget to do a race report! It's a nice way to reflect on your experience and share it with others.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
