Pre-race routine:

Ate a piece of toast with PB and drank some water before driving to Craighead Forest Park for the event. Up at 7, on site by 7:30, can't get any easier.
Event warmup:

Walked and jogged from my car to packet pick-up, then walked back to car to pin the bib on my shirt. Humid as heck, sweating before we even began.

Comments:

Might not have signed up had I known it was an offroad event! Track was full of ankle busting roots, ruts, rocks and more. Made for a cautious race on my part. I slowed and walked a bit at the two water stops then got back to it, maintained a reasonable pace throughout, but knew I'd not crack 30 minutes pretty early on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all. Given I'd not run in a week and I was taking it easy on the trail, I couldn't have expected much more. Was scheduled for a run anyway, might as well do it was a couple hundred others.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a bottle of water and Gatorade, sucked them both down. Went to the BR afterwards and walked back to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The course and me being a little out of condition after a couple weeks break.

Event comments:

Nice little local July 4th race...good way to start the holiday.

Course: I was expecting a run along the park roads. Would've been hilly but no big deal. Well...we started on a road, stayed on the road for maybe a half mile, then hit a dirt and gravel and rutted trail through the woods circling the lake at the center of the park.

In November of 2000, I noticed that I was losing the feeling in my toes. The sensation traveled up my body and within a week, I was nearly 80% paralyzed.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
