Subject: Track Workouts at Parkway West High School

Tuesday morning, I did a track/strength workout at Parkway West High School and it was such an enjoyable sufferfest, I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to join me.  We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll puke.  It'll be great! What I did was something very close to this:

  • 1.5 Mile Warm Up
  • 400 meters hard
  • Jump squats
  • Push ups
  • V ups
  • Pull ups
  • Lunges w/ shoulder press
  • 400 meters hard
  • Fast squats
  • Dips
  • Calf Raises
  • Elevated Push ups
  • 400 meters hard
  • 1 mile cool down

I think a significant portion of the Geneva Convention specifically prohibits that kind of training.

In all seriousness, I don't mean to scare anyone away.  It's a hard workout, but you choose the effort.  It'd be great to have a group of folks getting together on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.    The company would be nice and if I know someone else will be there, it's much more difficult to flake out.

What time are you thinking for the workouts on those mornings?

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.

Training for endurance athletics can be a complicated time gobbling monster. This is an understatement for the majority of us that are trying to juggle a full time job and/or school with training.

One way to improve your speed is to do track work that totals the time and distance goal. The idea is to slowly condition your body to be comfortable at your goal pace.
