Swim
Comments: Goggles fogged, crooked swimming, I ended up swimming very off course and possibly did a circle. Very embarassing and pathetic. Got a chaff from wetsuit on neck. Breathing and effort good considering how far off course I went time not as bad as I expected but still bad. What would you do differently?: Make sure wetsuit top is on perfectly straight. More down course sighting. Try to resolve goggle fogging issue. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from beach to T1. Rack to mount point only about 80 feet so I elected to put shoes on rather than try to get into them while riding. Especially because after mounting you immediately start a short climb so I idn't want to be screwing with the shoes. What would you do differently?: Put on helmet and then remove bib johns to keep T-area more organized. Bike
Comments: Speed and effort good, fluids not leaving stomach. back pain at mile 18. Pulled feet out of shoes a little early but not too bad. Bike computer says average speed higher than the autocalc. I wonder if course was longer than they thought or if its my settings. Wind made handling squirrely due to disk and 3 spoke combo. What would you do differently?: Relax back, forego the gel and stop drinking if I start to feel full Transition 2
Comments: Unfortunatly speed laces and elastic laces do not work very well with these shoes, so I had to futz with the laces. What would you do differently?: Different shoes, I hate these shoes Run
Comments: Fluids not emptying stomach at all. Severe side stitch at mile 1-4 had to walk 3 times to make peace with it. made mistake of sipping water at aid station with made it instantly worse. pressure from stomach made diaphram feel crampy and when I sped up last 2 miles for finish I started to wheeze and have difficultly getting air. Had to tie shoes twice. I really hate these shoes. What would you do differently?: no water during cramping. there were planty of aid stations so I could get a drink pretty much when I felt like it. Post race
Warm down: stop running! What limited your ability to perform faster: use of a gel and my gatorade concentration led to cramping. I made several little errors which led to my performance suffering and reduced my enjoyment. Breakfast too big, fluids not working, wetsuit not on perfect, sighting errors, sunblock washed off. Event comments: Good course, swim had little current and was lake smooth. plenty of fluids available. Bike was fast but not flat and boring. Run challenging but not sadistic. Activities nonexistent except for a massage which I eschewed for ice cream. Last updated: 2006-07-19 12:00 AM
