Pre-race routine:

Had some chomps about an hour before race time. Ate a bagel and cream cheese when i first woke up.
Event warmup:

Short swim in the lake.
Swim
  • 40h 37m 5s
  • 1500 yards
  • 2h 42m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my worst swim ever. I went to slow at the first 750. On top of that my sighting was terrible and I kept getting off course
What would you do differently?:

Push myself a little harder and make sure I pay attention to my sighting
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I felt good about my transition
Bike
  • 1h 03m 23s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall I felt very good on my bike. I pushed myself hard when I needed to and handled the hills pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Run
  • 1h 22m 54s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 13m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

So I know it's slow but this is the fastest I have ever run a 10k. In the future I would like to be faster but for now I'm happy with this time
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a weird race for me. Even though I set some records for myself on the run and bike I was the very last person to cross the finish line. I realize this was because there were so few competitors but I felt really disappointed by my time.

Overall I have to remember I'm competing against myself and not everyone there

Hey! Great job. And yes, the swim was wretched. I couldn't see a thing either.

Congrats on the 10k PR!

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
