I rode Mt Ventoux yesterday a few hours before the Tour came through. . We waited until the road was closed to cars. It was just cyclists and some walkers on the route. All the fans were in place. Now you all know the finish chute feeling? Everybody cheering for you even f you are back of the pack. Now imagine a 12 mile finish chute. It was incredible to ride such a storied route on race day. The chants of "Allez, allez, allez" made you forget leg burn. So many people were encouraging us! They let us ride to the final curve 100m from the finish. We got our cheesy pics coming through the 1km banner etc. Brag over.

It's hard to call something a brag when EVERYONE is jealous of it!!!  I could only dream of doing it.

Now, did you ride your tri bike?  LOL.

I rode up the Tourmalet last year before the tour came through. It was exactly like that. Awesome.

Now back to the OP.  Are you going to do the double ascent of the Alpe d'Huez as well?  Smile

I sure hope not! I've driven up the back side of AdH and honestly, it's barely a road. It's only wide enough for one car (and the car's descending has the right of way, so going up, you may need to back down to a passing point, which is about every 1/2 mile). Plus it's a cow pasture, so you will have cows walking in the middle of the road (and trust me, they have the right of way... at least in their mind!).

I can't imagine trying to descend that side...

Me and my wife rode Mt. Ventoux a few years back (not during tour time though). By far, my favorite climb in the world!!!!

It's truly an amazing experience and a stop for Nutella Crepe at Chateau Reynard is almost mandatory. Although, that sits like a rock in your stomach going up the "moon landscape" at the end... but well worth it!

I hope you recorded the TV broadcast so you can relive every street and pothole when you get home.

My husband and I happened to ride from Avranches to Mont St. Michel on about 80% of the same roads used for the TT, back in May.  We did a lot of stopping, reversing, and pausing while watching the coverage on TiVo last week.  They rode right past our hotel and many sights we recognized.  I wished we'd been there on the day of the race!

Super impressive. I would have had to walk my bike up. A few years ago I was riding in Italy during the Giro d'italia when they came by. I was with a group of riders and we obviously pulled off to the side of the road, but it was neat following their path and going into town with all the banners, etc. Of course, by the time we got there, all the people had left.

Climbing Mt. Ventoux can be a humbling/humiliating experience. Four hundred yards from the finish I was passed by a stunning rider with long blond hair, pink sports bra top and bright red lipstick. As hurting as I was I picked up the pace and tried to hang on but finished about fifteen feet behind .. Her legs were really nice but something didn,t seem quite right and I noticed people were doing double takes as she passed. After the summit I saw her taking a photo by the summit sign and wheeled over for a better look. As I got closer I noticed her arms were a little to muscular and her face didn,t look quite feminine enough. Glancing down to the crotch area the final blow landed when I noticed there was to much junk for a female.. After I slithered down to the cafe and ordered a beer realizing that I had been chicked by a transvestite, cross dresser or whatever the hell it was . I figured the day was only going to get better..

Now that is funny.

And what a chance for the OP to ride the TdF route. I live in France and have yet to ride on a TdF route though I only live about 20 miles from where they came through 5 years ago.

I find this is occurring after almost every workout. The pattern is always the same: freezing 10 min after a workout and 2 hours to warm up again. I am not sick. My diet is healthy.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
