Boulder, Colorado

World Triathlon Corp
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 26m 37s
Overall Rank = 1121/1263
Age Group = F30-34
Age Group Rank = 74/88
Pre-race routine:

up early, to the race, nothing out of the ordinary.
Event warmup:

walk around, try not to puke, three loops of the swim area.
Swim
  • 41m 4s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

found a lot more open water this time around. on the back half, felt like I was rocking back and forth a lot - almost like I was in a wake (that didn't exist). felt a lot faster than the time indicated.
What would you do differently?:

not adjust my wetsuit for the 18 trillionth time ... damn chafing. maybe also get in more ows's ... this swim was disappointing and not indicative of my ability.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

I *kind of* ran with the bike. wetsuit wasn't as annoying this time around. sunglasses worked out better in the helmet.
What would you do differently?:

not much, actually. maybe sunscreen slightly more.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 2s
  • 42 kms
  • 26.65 km/hr
Comments:

made the decision to walk the bike up the hardest part of stage, which I don't regret. legs never really got under me; neither did my lungs. this, like the swim, is not indicative of what I can do.
What would you do differently?:

not ride stage the week before. maybe a few weeks before, but not the week before. i'm pretty sure I still haven't recovered ...
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

did the trislide on the feet instead of bodyglide - think that worked smarter.
What would you do differently?:

sunscreen more. also, in retrospect, bodyglide the armpits in t1.
Run
  • 1h 06m 34s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 37s  min/km
Comments:

first half was a little rough; second half was definitely stronger. awkward running stride due to horrible chafing.
What would you do differently?:

bodyglide/Vaseline the armpits. now that I know the kit can do that, future note. also figure out why the second half of both of my runs was stronger ...
Post race
Warm down:

collapse on fencing, try not to die.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lungs. my training wasn't for this race. this is the equivalent of me doing chilly cheeks and expecting to do awesome.

Event comments:

peak is what it is - a harder-than-average Olympic. pissed that the bike course was shortened due to the stupid construction on the diagonal, pissed that I got some cheap t-shirt and not a tech tee, cranky that the volunteer on the stage aid station couldn't get me my water bottle. I think if I ever want to do well at this race, i'm gonna have to train for it.
