Pre-race routine:

PB&B oatmeal, coffee
Event warmup:

Walked from condo to transition. Cut too close on time. Disoriented about running first and couldn't think about what I needed. Got to start without sunglasses. Remembered I wasn't swimming and made another trip to portapotty. TT start was faster than anticipated and even though I hurried, they were past my number. No big deal but I didn't like running up to the start and then GO.
Run
  • 08m 41s
  • 2 miles
  • 04m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

It was a good run for me. First time to Du.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Bike
  • 1h 27m 47s
  • 26 miles
  • 17.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Considerable improvement from the incredible suffering of last year's race at 14.7 mph. Breezy, overcast and I am much more fit for these hills now.
What would you do differently?:

Keep riding.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Lost a shoe getting off the bike. Very nice guy behind me picked it up and handed it to me.
What would you do differently?:

More practice of dismount. I guess I twisted my foot and popped off the shoe.
Run
  • 1h 04m 39s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 25s  min/km
Comments:

I have to get my run speed up to par.
Post race
Warm down:

Baggie of ice on the back of my neck!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm a slow tri runner. These times were good for me, but I run faster a min faster per mile in standalone run races.

Event comments:

This is a tough course. We were lucky to have ideal weather. Too bad the swim was cancelled. I would much rather swim than run twice.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Race report on the Chattanooga Waterfront Tri - Beginners Point of View. This was my first Olympic length triathlon and also the first time I had done a race with cycling shoes instead of cages.
