Virginia Key, Florida
United States
Multieace
82F / 28C
Overcast
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 97/119
Age Group = 60-64M
Age Group Rank = 3/6
Pre-race routine:

Up at 0315, OTD at 0415, at Virginia Key at 0445. Pumped tires, stickers and hung bike. Got chip and back to truck to finish prep
Event warmup:

Yoga stretches
Swim
  • 36m 28s
  • 880 yards
  • 04m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tons of ripping current. I got blown 100y from first buoy and then had to swim back to that first buoy AGAINST a ripping current. This swim was 20min SLOWER today than the exact same swim in May. Still, I swam strong and stayed focused but this swim took LOTS out of me that cost me LOTS of time on the run
What would you do differently?:

Check out the current at this race site before the gun goes off
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

My normal slow T1 time :-(
This race site is always a transition in the dirt. :-(
What would you do differently?:

Get faster
Bike
  • 56m
  • 20 miles
  • 21.43 mile/hr
Comments:

This is always a slow course because of all the sharp turns and speed bumps
What would you do differently?:

Ride faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Again, my usual slow T2 time.
What would you do differently?:

Get faster somehow
Run
  • 1h 10m 57s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked about 6 times during this 2lap course because I got injured running through the sand here in May. Today I walked through the soft sand which cost me time on the run BUT I did not get hurt today
What would you do differently?:

My emphysema made breathing hard on the run again today.
Train differently so that I can run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran as fast as I could to the bathroom to crap

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Emphysema

Event comments:

Multirace and Mack Cycles always puts on good races IMO

This month's fun and fast training will help you improve performance and raise your metabolism so that you are feeling a bit hungry all the time and really burning up those calories.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.

“Less is more,” is a common buzz phrase in endurance sports today. It refers to the trend of training less but focusing on intensity and quality rather than on quantity.

You ride hard enough that you are working but not so hard that you can’t do the same thing the next day. 700 km or 400 miles a week.
