Overall Rank = 189/620
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 10/64
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at our friend's luxurious house the night before. Ate some good food at Issaquah Brewhouse and got a decent night's sleep. Got up at 4:50 and ate a banana and a Luna bar. Drank water.
Event warmup:

Not much warm-up. Stood around for an hour watching the Oly athletes head out. I was the second wave of the sprint distance. Got in the water a few minutes before and was feeling really, really nervous and jittery. Lack of preparation definitely played a role.
Swim
  • 19m 18s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have only done shorter swim tris since my meltdown at Blue Lake two years ago. I was sooooo nervous for this swim. I kept my head down, counted my strokes, and just kept moving forward. It got crowded around the buoys and I had to do some breast stroke to get through the mayhem. 63 other people in my wave made things a bit crowded. I was so proud of myself for never resorting to the backstroke!
What would you do differently?:

More training. I think I could be a decent swimmer if I would just get out and swim more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Wobbly and dizzy coming out of the swim. I did a bit of staggering and trying not to fall down as I took off my wetsuit. Other than that, this was a good transition for me.
What would you do differently?:

Just sit down to take the wetsuit off!
Bike
  • 38m 36s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Couple of near mishaps - had a close encounter with a guy riding on my side of the MUP as I came out of the express lane tunnel. It scared the hell out of me. I was going pretty fast and he was coming up a fairly steep hill. Could have been very ugly. And he wasn't supposed to be there.
What would you do differently?:

Feel like I could have given it a little more. Dang.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Nice and quick - in and out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

My fastest 5K ever! YAY! Even with the huge ass hill. Definitely left it all on the course.
What would you do differently?:

I don't really like to run, so more training doesn't seem very likely.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered a bit. Did some foam rolling.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough swimming.

Event comments:

Awesome race. I would like to be back next year!

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

The ISM Adamo Racing Saddle is difficult to define. It doesn’t look like a bicycle saddle. It doesn’t mount like a bicycle saddle. And yet, it does feel like a bicycle saddle.

Is there any empirical evidence indicating that there are physical benefits to be derived from stretching? If so, what are the benefits?
